Autodosing in the Planted Tank
The Picture
Above you see the reefdoser unit connected to clear 1000ml bottles.
There is a check valve after each pump. Check valves are extremely important when using peristaltic pumps.
There are u tubes keeping the tubes secured to the aquarium.

Equipment
The equipment list is simple:
1. Container for liquids
2. Tubing
3. Pumps
4. Check valves
5. U tubes
For containers I picked out clear 1L containers with meaurements on the side. The markings are not useful now but helped with the math when I made my first solution. I am happy I picked clear because I can see when the solutions are low.
I used the best tubing I could find. Premium label cost a few dollars more than plain clear stuff. The u tubes I mentioned were called exactly that. I picked them up at my local aquarium store. They are rigid 1/4 inch u shaped tubes that fit right on the rim of my aquarium.
For pumps I use Aqua Medic Reefdoser. It is poorly made with plastic wheels which break during operation. I have a fix for that and will post it in another article. Other that that its great and makes dialing in ferts real easy. You can also choose to buy a single pump and a timer. My list above does not contain the timer because my reefdoser pump has one built in. The timer is an important component. Be sure to select a timer with minute interval or lower.
