Brine Shrimp Hatchery

Start out with an empty bottle.

Recycle! Its a good idea. Arizona bottle like this works great. It can be tough to cut be very careful.

Cut the bottom off leaving a few inches for base portion. Be very careful cutting all materials. Using a dremmel tool is ideal when using Arizona bottle with thicker gauge plastic.

Oh no...Missy is interested. :)

Completely dry out the bottle before moving further.

Inspected by Missy.

Cut a hole in the base and another in the cap for the air line. Use the cap as template for hole in base.

Install airline into the cap. Use aquarium silicone to seal. Does the job and cures in minutes.

Install top portion into base like shown in photo above. If the hole in the base is good it snaps together perfectly. Attach cap to top portion. Bad cut on step one provides clearance for airline.

I use about 3 cups of distilled water at 78F, two teaspoons of instant ocean and a sprinkle of baking soda. Add premium brine shrimp eggs just a little dash can go a long way. I also add vitamins, few drops of zoe, to the water a day after startup. I use lighting via small desk lamp to keep water warm and trigger the hatching. Use adjustable air pump or inline valve. Set air on med-high providing rolling current for one full day then adjust to low. After 1.5 days you will have baby brine shrimp to feed your young fish. I use a turkey baster and brine shrimp net for feeding. I rinse the brine in removed tank water before feeding for good measure.

There is a new food called Golden Pearls that has replaced brine shrimp. Its power packed with protein and the same size as baby brine shrimp. I purchased the 100-200 micron size for feeding galaxies. The 5-50 micron size is ideal for newborn galaxies and other very small fish.
